Introduction to Neurofascial Manipulation with Steve Evanko (live, via Zoom)

Introduction to Neurofascial Manipulation

This introductory lecture class will introduce you to the research and concepts behind neurofascial manipulation– working directly with the nerves and superficial fascia to restore mobility and decrease pain. Nerves control tissue tone, while tethered and overstretched nerves create pain and inflammation. Direct engagement of the neurofascia and skilled use of neural mobilization techniques can dramatically increase your level of results and set you apart.

In this introductory lecture class, we will discuss concepts of neurogenic inflammation, ectopic firing, central sensitization, and fibromyalgia. The work is based in part on concepts from JP Barral, Alain Crobier, and Don Hazen, DC. You will learn how tethered cutaneous nerves contribute to shoulder, neck, and arm pain. We will also learn to slow down, refine our touch of the superficial layers and self-palpate several nerves in the arm and wrist. This class will provide you with a basic theoretical understanding of neurofascial work, and is a prerequisite class for Steve's neurofascial technique classes when they are scheduled (March’s technique class section is sold out).

CE Hours: 3 (NCBTMB-approved)
Date and Time: Friday, March 7th, 2025, 6:30pm-9:30pm

Neurofascial Manipulation for the Neck and Head with Steve Evanko

neurofascial manipulation for the neck and head

Please note that this class has a prerequisite: attendance of the 3-hour Introduction to Neurofascial Manipulation class. If you have taken that class and would like to attend this hands-on class, please contact us at info@pnwschool.com and we’ll send you the private link. If you haven’t taken the introductory class, there is a section available on March 7th as part of the 2-day package.

Course description: It may surprise you to learn that some of the hard and tender knots we've furiously been working on are actually swollen and potentially inflamed and tethered nerves. Neural mobilization skills will dramatically increase your results and set you apart. This class will be an introduction to working directly with the nerves and superficial fascia to restore joint mobility and decrease pain.

In this class we'll explore the nerves around the neck, jaw, and head, and their relationship to thoracic outlet syndrome, forward head posture, TMJ dysfunction, headaches, dowager's hump, and ROM issues. This is a good opportunity to enhance your nerve palpation skills as well as learning a few effective self-care tips.

Some of the nerves we will cover in class include the cervical plexus (lesser occipital, great auricular, transverse cervical, supraclavicular nerve), trigeminal nerve (opthalmic, maxillary and mandibular branches), dorsal rami of cervical spinal nerves (greater occipital, lesser, 3rd occipital), and the spinal accessory nerve. Please also familiarize yourself with the other cranial nerves and review muscle attachments and articulations around the thoracic outlet.

Stephen Evanko (license #MA 12182), Ph.D, is a researcher, Certified Advanced Rolfer® and has practiced in Seattle for 20 years, both as a Rolfer and as a researcher studying the properties of connective tissues under stress. He has conducted biomechanical studies on tendons and fibrocartilage and the tissue response to cyclic compression, and has published several peer-reviewed papers. His neurofascial work is an elegant combination of state of the art bodywork and outcome-based research.

Instructor: Steve Evanko, PhD, Advanced Rolfer
CE Hours: 8 (NCBTMB-approved)
Date and Time: Saturday, March 8th, 2025, 9:30am-6:30pm
Tuition: $190, with a $90 non-refundable deposit.

Prerequisite: Completion of Introduction to Neurofascial Manipulation and a $90 non-refundable deposit.

Please note that this class is currently sold out. If you’d like to be placed on the waiting list, please email us at info@pnwschool.com - Thank you.

Intro to Neurofascial Work and Engaging the Neurofascial Matrix of Upper Extremities (Friday night Zoom meeting and Saturday Hands-On Class)

It may surprise you to learn that some of the hard and tender knots we've furiously been working on are actually swollen and potentially inflamed and tethered nerves. Neural mobilization skills will dramatically increase your level of results and set you apart. This live, hands-on technique class will be an introduction to working directly with the nerves and superficial fascia to restore joint mobility and decrease pain, and is based in part on concepts from JP Barral, Alain Crobier, and Don Hazen, DC.

We will learn to slow down, refine our touch of the superficial layers and palpate and release several nerves in the shoulder, arm, lower neck, and upper back. You will learn how tethered cutaneous nerves contribute to shoulder, neck, and arm pain, and learn a set of specific techniques for release, differentiation, and repositioning of the local nerve fields, including the brachial plexus, and the following nerves: musculocutaneous, axillary, radial, median, dorsal scapular, suprascapular, ulnar, and spinal accessory. We will also discuss concepts of fibromyalgia, central sensitization and neurogenic inflammation.

The prerequisite for taking this class is Friday’s 3-hour “Introduction to Neurofascial Manipulation” class, which is included in your tuition. You will not be able to attend Saturday’s technique class unless you have previously taken the introductory class.

Please note that due to PNWSM infection control protocols, the live portion of the class will be limited to 14 students. Masking is currently optional, unless there is a surge in Covid infections in January. Please also be mindful of colds, flu, etc.

Instructor: Steve Evanko, PhD, Advanced Rolfer
CE Hours: 11 hour total (NCBTMB-approved for CE credit)
Date and Time: Friday, January 26th, 6:30-9:30pm (Zoom webinar), and Saturday, January 27th, 9:30am-6:30pm (live hands-on)
Tuition: $240, with a $140 non-refundable deposit.

Prerequisite to this class: Introduction to Neurofascial Manipulation (included in your tuition).
